Transformation of a 50-year-old Jr High School to the Modern Pedagogy of Teaching & Learning

Learning Objectives:
  • Identify potential phasing required to build on an occupied campus and the considerations for occupant safety.
  • Explain how renovating an existing facility can add value to a school district and is a more sustainable solution than building new or demolishing an existing asset.
  • Describe the challenge of complex renovation project on an occupied campus.
  • Learn factors to consider while adding a new grade level to an existing building.

Vandana Nayak, Perkins&Will
Having worked with educational clients for more than two decades, Vandana has a unique ability to understand her clients’ intentions and aspirations beyond simply listening to the words they say. This is especially powerful for her education clients who typically have a large number of constituents involved, all with diverse perspectives. She’s able to navigate through the many voices, create a clear vision, and translate that into a built facility that exceeds her clients’ expectations.

Brandon Ruez, Core Construction
Bandon is a graduate of Texas Tech University and currently serves as a Project Director at CORE Construction. Known for his innovative approach and effective leadership, Bandon excels in managing complex and fast-paced office environments. His proactive nature and ability to orchestrate tasks and details have consistently driven successful project outcomes and achieved set goals.

Le Estes, Richardson ISD
Le is the Executive Director of Facilities Planning, Design, and Construction at Richardson Independent School District. Before joining Richardson ISD, she worked as an architect at Perkins & Will, where she developed an extensive background in designing K-12 schools. Le is deeply committed to enhancing the experiences of both faculty and students, striving to create school environments that are welcoming and inspiring for all.

Call for Programs

We are excited to release the call for programs for the North Texas Chapter 2025 Meetings! We always have a great pool of programs to review and are happy to share some changes in our selection process for our upcoming year.

  1. The North Texas Chapter has opened monthly meetings to occur both over lunch and in the afternoons, which allows for greater flexibility in planning our chapter meetings with school districts and institutions.
  2. Programs submissions may be accepted without a specified location. If selected, the location of the presentation will be determined by the NTX Chapter board members.
  3. Alternately, facility and other venue locations may be submitted without presentations for consideration.
