Planner of the Year

British Columbia Chapter Members – Submit Your Nominations

The British Columbia Chapter annually recognizes one member for outstanding planning achievements, either over a long period or during the past year. The selected member would be honoured at a BC Association for Learning Environments Seminar and receive a plaque. He or she would also be put forward as a BC nominee for Pacific Northwest Region recognition.

Criteria
  • Association member in good standing;
  • Has not won this award in the last five years;
  • Has been performing educational facilities planning activities for at least four years.

Submission Requirements
  • Name, position, Association membership number;
  • Description of the planning activity for which nominated. Acceptable examples include:
    • A complex concept plan and programming for a major project;
    • A comprehensive district facilities capital plan;
    • Creation of district design standards for schools;
    • Analysis of multiple school site needs;
    • An impact study of the effect of enrolment decline or district reorganization on facilities requirements;
    • Any similar significant and meritorious planning endeavour related to school facilities.
  • Description of the role of the nominee in the above planning activity; and
  • An impact statement from the client affected by the work. This could be a school district (Board, Superintendent, or Secretary-Treasurer) or the Ministry of Education.

Submit by 15 January Each Year
BC Chapter has a Nominating Committee consisting of our Ministry rep and the zone reps (Lower Mainland, Vancouver Island, and Interior). The submission can be sent to any of the executives for referral to the committee.

  • Have a goal, a need or a vision to better a Learning Environment or program
  • Are connected to students enrolled in a BC School K 12 program
  • Could use funding to help realize the dream

Let us help and be part of the dream by submitting a 2-5 minute PowerPoint or YouTube video presentation telling us:
  • Who are you? What is your organization's mission or purpose?
  • What are you planning to use the money for? Provide a cost breakdown.
  • How will the grant enhance your learning activities/environment, and how will your plan be embedded in the school?

Prizes:

1st Place: $5,500
2nd Place: $3,000
3rd Place: $1,500

Eligibility:

Any school organization connected to students enrolled in a public or private BC School K-12 (or portion of K-12) program.

Attachment: PowerPoint or YouTube video (if under 7 MB in size), or a link to the PowerPoint or YouTube video.
