Susanne Maguire

Susanne Maguire, ALEP, BEd, MSP

University of British Columbia

Susanne has been actively engaged in learning and teaching in British Columbia for the past 32 years. Beginning her career as a teacher in K-7 schools, she also had the honour to work in district and provincial positions. Through these experiences, she became more curious about the role of place and space in student learning, leading her to join the A4LE in 2013, then exploring these questions of learning environments with others in the 2021-22 ALEP certification program. She is currently on faculty at University of British Columbia, coordinating the elementary cohort for the West Kootenay Teacher Education Program in what is now called Nelson, BC. She is honoured to learn and live on the unceded traditional, ancestral and contested territories where the sngaytskstx tum-ula7xw (Sinixt), Syilx tmixʷ (Okanagan), and Ktunaxa ɁamakɁis, (Ktunaxa) Nations have lived and stewarded the land and waters for generations. This territory is also home to many other diverse Indigenous persons including the Metis.


Jenna Norton

Jenna Norton, ALEP

Educational Planner, Huckabee Architects

Jenna has served her entire career collaborating with clients in achieving their vision and goals in design. She had her start after University in the Fashion Design field, with a degree in Fashion Design and Merchandise Marketing, serving as Designer, Brand Manager, and Creative Director over the years. In 2014 her career turned in a new direction as she entered the architectural world, with focus on serving education clients. With a newfound passion for educational environments, she learned and trained in the area of design for architecture. She was able to merge her two careers together to serve education clients in developing and achieving their vision in the built environment.

She joined A4LE as a member in 2015 and had the opportunity to work with her team to present their project as one of 3 finalists for the MacConnell award in 2016. She has since served in educational planning and communication roles, working with districts to envision what is possible in the design of their learning environments, think outside the box, and push the boundaries of teaching and learning with visionary education clients across Texas.

Jenna and her husband Paul moved to the Austin area in 2020 with their children, Julia and Caleb, as he took on a role serving in education at a School District in the area. She has since been working at Huckabee Architects, as an Educational Planner. She attended the ALEP Academy in 2021 and earned the prestigious ALEP designation. She continues to work with District clients to better understand their unique challenges and opportunities in teaching and learning and help them develop the best solutions for their students and learning environments that serve them well into the future. She has an immense passion for design for education and for continuous learning, with a drive to collaborate and grow in her ability to serve and contribute.


Tracy Richter

Tracy Richter, ALEP

Vice President of Planning Services, HPM

Tracy brings 30+ years of experience in teaching and K12 educational planning background. During the past 25 years, he has coordinated and directed facility planning and standards development for all size districts and capital programs in 27 States across the nation. His related experience in facilities planning has resulted in over $15 billion in school construction during his career. Tracy also has coordinated State Level planning and standards development including Ohio School Construction Commission, Alaska Department of Education and Early Development, Hawaii Department of Education, Rhode Island School Authority, and New Mexico PSFA. Currently, Tracy serves as Vice President of Planning Services for HPM and when not on a plane, lives in Columbus, Ohio.


Michael Chewning

Michael Chewning, EdD, ALEP, AIA, LEED AP BD+C

Principal, McMillan Pazdan Smith Architecture

Dr. Chewning is a dedicated and experienced educational design and planning professional with over 25 years of experience. As a Principal and K-12 Director, he has managed multiple projects and teams across McMillan Pazdan Smith's footprint, earning him a reputation as a trusted leader in the industry. He has been actively engaged with A4LE for many years and currently serves on the A4LE South Carolina Board of Directors. His vast experience with school renewal and renovations is reflected in his unwavering dedication to the field. Dr. Chewning embodies the example of a life-long learner, investing his knowledge back into the communities he serves.


Brandon McLaughlin

Brandon McLaughlin, ALEP

Assistant Superintendent for Design & Construction, Clark County School District

Brandon is the Assistant Superintendent for Design & Construction at the 5th-large school district in the county, Clark County School District of the Las Vegas metropolitan area. An architect by training, Brandon leads a diverse team of design and construction professionals, real estate, planning, demographics, zoning, and geographic information systems personnel, and even their own building department for strategically aligned spaces that elevate student and staff experiences across the District. Currently underway with a $3.7 billion, 14-year capital improvement plan – Brandon focuses on meaningful dialogues surrounding space that enhances teaching and learning. As the first and only Accredited Learning Environment Planner in Nevada, Brandon advocates locally and nationally for the educational built environment. Brandon is a graduate of the Design School at Arizona State University, where his unique blend of an architectural professional degree, coupled with sociology and political science undergraduate work makes for a unique perspective in his current role blending numerous industries for the betterment of the students, staff and families of Southern Nevada.


Roy Sprague

Roy J. Sprague Jr., ALEP, AIA, NCARB, CSI, LE FELLOW

Senior Vice President, Prolego Consulting Solutions

Roy is a registered Architect and Interior Designer in the state of Texas with 42 years of experience in facilities and construction. He recently retired as the Chief Operations Officer for Cypress-Fairbanks ISD (CFISD), the third largest school district in the state of Texas providing leadership for eight divisions with over 3500 employees which included facilities planning, construction, maintenance, custodial, energy management, nutritional service, transportation, purchasing and real estate acquisitions. He managed the successful completion of the design and construction of six Bond Programs totaling over $3.7 billion of new construction and renovations of K-12 educational facilities and most recently, the $1.762 billion program passed in May 2019. He recently joined Prolego Consulting Services, a program management company, as Senior Vice President leading and advancing Prolego’s initiatives in the K-12 education sector.

His awards/honors include the 2006 Lifetime Achievement Award in the Association for Learning Environments (A4LE) Southern Region; 2007 A4LE International Lifetime Achievement Award finalist; 2006/2007 A4LE International Chairman of the Board; earned the A4LE Accredited Learning Environment Professional (ALEP) designation; and was selected as an A4LE LE Fellow in 2019. In 2014, he was selected as one of 75 influential honorees from the CFISD Community for significant positive contributions made influencing the students, schools, and the community. He was selected by the CFISD Board of Trustees as the namesake for Roy J. Sprague, AIA Middle School. He currently serves on the national (I-LinCP) Board of Directors as well as the Collaborative for High-Performance Schools (CHPS) as Chairman.

Roy loves to spend his spare time playing golf and bowling.
