WOD: A4LE Webinar Advancing Learning Environments Through LED Retrofits and Intelligent Controls

This session explores one of the largest K–12 LED lighting and advanced controls retrofits in the nation, spanning 205 campuses and over 23 million square feet. Through standardized design, manufacturer alignment, and intelligent controls, the program improved usability for staff, reduced operational burdens, and delivered measurable performance gains. A 10-year full-service O&M package further ensured reliability and cost savings, with lifetime savings projected at more than $218 million. Beyond energy efficiency, the initiative prioritized student success and occupant well-being by enhancing visual comfort, safety, and adaptability of learning environments. Emergency lighting upgrades, consistent sequences of operation, and optimized retrofits provided healthier, more secure classrooms and exterior spaces. The program also reflected a deep commitment to equity and community impact—achieving 40% participation from minority- and women-owned businesses, exclusively engaging local subcontractors, and creating opportunities for student, faculty, and community involvement throughout the project. Attendees will gain practical strategies and lessons learned that can be applied to future large- scale educational facility upgrades.
