The OR/SW WA Chapter is excited to invite you to this special tour of Caldera High School in Bend, OR. All registered individuals may bring family/friends to the tour and happy hour free of charge. Accommodations to stay in Bend are not provided.

Caldera High School provides a flexible, welcoming, and innovative learning environment that prepares students to think critically and positively engage in society. It is a place where students, staff, and the larger community can feel safe and connected. The spaces thoughtfully reflect access and equity as core values, empowering each student to interact purposefully with each other and their communities. This “school of the future” features adaptable, functional spaces that meet the diverse needs in the present and can respond to educational innovations in the future. The building contains a variety of engaging spaces that stimulate deep learning, helping students discover their passions, and become independent learners that are prepared for success in college, careers and life.

Learning Objectives:

• How the design of spaces thoughtfully reflected access and equity as core values, empowering each and every student to engage positively in the school, community and society.
• How opportunities for collaboration and group interaction in a variety of adaptable learning spaces where visual connection and transparency were prioritized.
• How the goals of collaboration, group interaction, and adaptable learning spaces were fulfilled through areas scaled to support various activities and group sizes such as independent study, small group activities, and large group learning.
• How the engaging environment stimulates deep learning and student agency, so students find their passions, take responsibility for learning, and prepare for success in college and careers.
